I made a twine, or short text-based chose your own adventure game based on the begining of Leviathan Wakes using Twinery.org. 
Gamification allows students and teachers to take almost any imaginable curriculum and create something totally new and potentially very fun.
The teacher augmenting or modifying the lesson by gamifying it is cool, but what is more interesting is having the students gamify their own way and really redefine the material. By working with others and engaging in the design process, problem solving, analyzing, and ultimately creation of a curriculum based game they not only can be proud of, but can enjoy and share.
There is lots to learn about gaming, like mechanics, space use, motivation, and the building mystery or interest that are all great lessons outside of the curriculum as well.
